UBWUNGO PEACE AND RECONCILIATION CENTER
‘UBWUNGO’
... IS A RWANDAN WORD THAT DESCRIBES
The African tradition of healing, of mending together that which is broken.
UPRC is a long-term, collaborative heart project from CARSA Rwanda that aspires to become the first place for Rwandans to share their positive stories of reconciliation after the 1994 genocide. The mission of the Center is to serve local communities by
supporting their journey toward healing, forgiveness, and peacebuilding. UPRC will promote stories of solidarity and hope for future generations of local and international learners by collecting and exhibiting these positive stories of post-genocide reconciliation.
By building a future-oriented campus outside of Kigali, Rwanda, We will present
examples of reconciliation after genocide and mass killings to increase awareness and
understanding in post-conflict societies and the hope that sustainable peace is possible.
The multimedia research campus will reach local and global audiences and provide
them with a space for collaboration. It will be a pioneering space for learning and
knowledge exchange on Rwanda's post-genocide journey. UPRC is not a place for
blame and pity but for understanding, humanizing, and personalizing a tragedy that
everyone is capable of. It is a place to take ownership of the past without shame,
inspired by love to sew seeds of peace at home — wherever that is for you.
